Cork spray render

A sprayed natural cork finish that weatherproofs the wall and adds insulation at the same time. Particularly useful on solid-wall property that can't take cavity insulation.
Weatherproofing that also keeps heat in.
A large proportion of the older housing around Gravesend, Medway and Dartford is solid-walled — one brick thick, no cavity, nowhere to inject insulation. Those houses are cold and expensive to heat, and the usual answer is external wall insulation, which is a substantial and expensive job.
Cork render sits in between. Sprayed onto the elevation, it forms a flexible, breathable, water-repellent layer with genuine thermal properties. It won't match the U-value of a full insulation system, but it costs a fraction of one and does the weatherproofing at the same time.
It is also extremely flexible, so it copes with movement far better than a rigid render, and it comes in a range of finishes.
Where cork makes sense
- Solid-walled property with no cavity to fill
- A cold external wall that never quite warms up
- Render that has cracked repeatedly and been patched
- An exposed elevation taking weather off the estuary
- Wanting weatherproofing and insulation in one go
- A wall where rigid render keeps failing
More expensive than a standard coating — but it's doing two jobs, and on a solid wall that maths often works.
Cork render sprayed seamlessly onto solid walls
Applied by spray so it works into the surface and around detail without joints. The finish is textured and comes in a range of colours.
Same preparation discipline as any coating.
Cork is flexible and forgiving, but it still needs sound material underneath. Anything blown or loose comes off first.
And if we think a standard coating would serve you better, we'll say so.

Wall construction, condition, exposure and what you're trying to achieve. Cork isn't always the right answer.

Repair and prepare
Blown render removed, cracks made good, surface cleaned down to sound material.

Mask and scaffold
Everything sheeted, scaffold erected and certified — included in the fixed price.

Spray application
Applied in passes to the specified thickness, working into detail and around openings without joints.

Walk round and hand over
Inspected with you before the scaffold comes down, and any snagging dealt with there and then.
