Meet the teamTen minutes west of us along the A226. Victorian terraces near the town centre, post-war semis on the estates, and cracked pebbledash on a great many of them.
Dartford splits fairly neatly. Around the town centre and along the older roads you get Victorian and Edwardian terraces — solid walls, original slate damp courses, and the classic tide-marked ground floor. Out towards Temple Hill, Joydens Wood and the Bridge development it's post-war and later: cavity walls, rendered or pebbledashed elevations, and flat-roofed extensions.
The two need genuinely different treatment. A terrace off Lowfield Street usually wants a new damp course and replastering. A 1960s semi with a stained bedroom wall usually wants the render sorting and the gutter clearing, and injecting it would be money wasted.
Ten to fifteen minutes from the yard. Dartford is about as close to home as our work gets.
Victorian terraces near the centre were built with slate courses that crack as the building settles. Once cracked they stop working, and you get the tide mark and salt staining that comes with it.
Extremely common across the estates. Hairline cracking lets water behind the render, and because it can't get back out you get a damp patch inside that no amount of replastering fixes.
Rear extensions and garages with felt roofs at the end of their life. Standing water, moss and a ceiling stain underneath.
Rubble and mortar snots left in the cavity during building, or a raised patio sitting above the damp course. Both let water track across into the inner leaf.
The single most common Dartford job. Cracking gets cut out and made good, blown render comes off, then the whole elevation is coated with a flexible breathable finish rather than patched. Drag the line across. Fixing this outside is what stops the damp patch appearing inside.

Tide marks and salt staining on ground floor walls. We inject a new damp proof course using the SecoMUR system, guaranteed 30 years, then replaster with a salt-inhibiting render.
Patches that worsen after rain. Nearly always caused by something outside — a gutter, cracked render or failed pointing — so that's what we fix first.
Black mould in corners and around windows. Needs ventilation rather than damp proofing, and we'll say so rather than sell you a damp course.
Any system — torch-on, GRP or EPDM. Stripped back to the deck, rotten timber replaced, insulated to current regs.
Tile and slate. Slipped tiles, failed mortar bedding, lead flashing, and full re-roofs with dry ridge and verge.
An overflowing gutter is one of the most common causes of a damp wall in Dartford, and one of the cheapest things to put right.

Weatherproofs and insulates at the same time. Worth considering on solid-wall property that can't take cavity insulation.
Cellars need waterproofing rather than damp proofing. Tanked walls and floor, or a cavity drain system with a sump.
